Week 26, Day 3
Objective: recognize distinctive and shared characteristics of cultures through reading; understand cultural background to literary texts, grade level vocabulary, and listening for understanding.
  1. Bell Work: Read this article and respond.
  2. Discuss expectations and quizzes for The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
    1. You will be expected to take notes (handwritten) as we read.
    2. You will be able to use these notes on your quizzes over the chapters.
    3. The quizzes will be VERY detail-oriented.
    4. If you are absent, please catch up BEFORE you return to class.  I would encourage you to get with a classmate to know how much we read.
    5. If you want to bring your own copy of the book, you may do so.
    6. If you lose your school-issued book, it will cost you $15.00 to replace it.
    7. I HIGHLY encourage you to check out Spark Notes, Cliff Notes, or other web resources IN ADDITION TO reading the text.  It will help you with understanding.  It WILL NOT take the place of reading the actual book.  Do NOT rely solely on those resources
  3. Begin reading Chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby
  4. Reminders:
    1. The Great Gatsby Treasure Hunt due yesterday, but I didn't put the form on my blog until late.  You may still turn it in today.  Use this form to turn it in.
