Week 29, Day 2
Objective: recognize distinctive and shared characteristics of cultures through reading; understand cultural background to literary texts, grade level vocabulary, and listening for understanding.

  1. Bell Work: Clear your desk except for a blue/black ink pen.  Get ready for your SAT Quiz.
  2. SAT Quiz over Week 6-10
  3. Continue reading Chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby
    1. Go around the room and read out loud. Everyone must read.   You may read as much as you like, however, you must read at least one sentence.
    2. Take notes as you read.
    3. Quiz over Chapter 1 TOMORROW!!!!
  4. Remember my expectations for reading and the quizzes for The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
    1. Some reading will be done out loud, as a class.  Some reading will be done by yourself, in class.  But sometimes, you might have to read on your own, for homework. (Gasp!!!)
    2. You will be expected to take notes (handwritten) as you read.
    3. You will be able to use these notes on your quizzes over the chapters.
    4. The quizzes will be VERY detail-oriented.
    5. If you are absent, please catch up BEFORE you return to class.  I would encourage you to get with a classmate to know how much we read.
    6. I HIGHLY encourage you to check out Spark Notes, Cliff Notes, or other web resources IN ADDITION TO reading the text.  It will help you with understanding.  It WILL NOT take the place of reading the actual book.  Do NOT rely solely on those resources.
    7. Gatsby Books
      1. If you didn't bring it, you may go to your locker to get it...but it will cost you a TARDY or a GET OUT OF JAIL FREE PASS.
      2. Bring it to class EVERY, SINGLE DAY!
    8. Reminders:
      1. Work on Free Rice...this is the only way you will be able to have a daily and quiz grade dropped.  I will announce the numbers that you have to get to.  But know that they will be pretty high...like above 25,000.
      2. Today should be my last to be out for quite awhile.  Take care of your business and be the awesome people that you always are!!!
