1. Bell Work:  Write a journal entry your great-grandparent might have written many years ago.  Think about all the things that were different such as clothing, food, vehicles, prices, government, etc.


2. SAT Word of the Day


3. Turn to page 569 in your textbook.


4. While waiting you can make sure that your vocabulary and literary terms are completed.  


5. As a class, finish "from Life on the Mississippi" and "The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" 



6. Talk about stories


7. Test over stories.  


8. Remember: your Ethics Essay is due by midnight on Friday!

1. Bell Work:  Write about a time when you learned something from a child.


2. Write the SAT Word in your SAT Document from yesterday.


3. Turn to page 569 in your textbook.


4. Write your vocabulary in your Vocab Document that you created yesterday.  (word, part of speech, definition, and sentence)


5. Write the literary terms and their definitions.


You have 15 minutes to get this done.  Then we are reading the two stories.  :-)

1. Turn in your Bell Work spiral to the front of the room.


2. Bell Work (Write this in your Google Doc titled Bell Work)

         Write a speech which would cause lots of classmates to vote for you if you were running for class president.  Make sure your speech contains at least five good reasons why people should vote for you.

3. Create a Google Doc in the Collection "Avalos English"
     Title the document "Mark Twain Notes"
4. Create another Google Doc in the Collection "Avalos English"
     Title the document "Literary Analysis and Literary Terms"
5. Create a third document titled "Vocabulary"--you may want to do this in a spreadsheet


6. Create a fourth document titled "SAT Words"--you may want to do this in a spreadsheet.  
7. Log-on to phlitonline.com
     Remember your username is all CAPS: FIRSTNAMELASTNAME
     Password:  MMDDYY (Birthday)
8. Click To-Do


9. Click Author In-Depth: Mark Twain


10. Begin working your way through the tasks.

Bell Work:
  • In Google Docs...Start a new collection titled "Avalos English"  
  • In that collection, add another collection titled "Bell Work."  Within "Bell Work" start a new Google Doc Titled "5th Six Weeks Bell Work"
  • Write the prompts for Monday-Wednesday and respond in your document.  (They are on my website--you may copy and paste.)  
  • If you need help, collaborate with me or a classmate.  

The format for your bell work is shown below.

The bell work question is written here.  
Response...make sure you have at least 5 sentences.  Make your date bold and copy the prompt from my website.  Make your prompt bold.  Then respond to the prompt using a minimum of five sentences.  You should indent your first sentence, like this paragraph is done.  After you have completed your response, double space and maybe put a dividing line (Shift + ‘-’) like I did below.  Then you will be ready for the next day.

  • Bookmark Mrs. Avalos's Website
  • Bookmark Online Textbook
  • Bookmark English with Avalos Blog
  • Create a document in "Avalos English" titled "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge"
  • Answer the Reading Check questions from pages 480-489. Use complete sentences. When finished, share the document with me via Google Docs.



Finish up any tasks you haven't completed from the earlier part of the week:

  • Username/Password Document
  • Evernote Account
  • Shelfari Account
  • Diigo Account
  • Twitter Account
  • Show Mrs. Avalos your Ethics Rough Draft

When finished, you may log-in and do FreeRice.com
