  1. Bell Work: Make up funny good news-bad news pairs like the examples.  Examples:  Good news:  I just got my allowance.  Bad news:  It's three cents.; Good news: I just got a new watch.  Bad news: I dropped it and it broke.; Good news: My mom bought me an ice-cream cone.  Bad news: The ice cream fell out of the cone.
  2. Number a piece of paper 1-39.
    1. I will put a story on the board.  You will have to decide if there, their, or they're goes in the blank.  Write your answer on the notebook paper.  We will go over the answers when everyone is finished.
  3. Then, number the back of your paper 1-47.  
    1. I will put a paragraph on the board.  Write the incorrect homophone on the paper, followed by the homophone that should go there.  For example, four-for.
  4. We will go over this, when we are finished.
    1. It was probably very difficult for you to read this paragraph and for it to make any sense.  When you use the wrong spelling of a word (ie. homophones), you make it extremely difficult for your reader to understand what you are trying to say.      
  5. Please work on writing carefully and using the correct form of a word.

Objective: Students use elements of the writing process (planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) to compose text.  Plan a first draft by selecting the correct genre for conveying the intended meaning to multiple audiences, determining appropriate topics through a range of strategies, and developing a thesis or controlling idea; structure ideas in a sustained way and develop drafts in open-ended situations that include transitions and rhetorical devices to convey meaning; revise drafts to clarify meaning and achieve specific rhetorical purposes, consistency of tone, and logical organization by rearranging the words, sentences, and paragraphs to employ tropes, schemes, and by adding transitional words and phrases; edit drafts for grammar, mechanics, and spelling; revise final draft in response to feedback from peers and teacher and publish written work for appropriate audiences.
