Week 28, Day 4
Objective: recognize distinctive and shared characteristics of cultures through reading; understand cultural background to literary texts, grade level vocabulary, and listening for understanding.

  1. Bell Work: Get out your Week 28 DRE and Rough Draft
  2. "My Ethics, My Codes of Life" Rough Draft
    1. Due by 4:00pm for a daily grade.
    2. If you don't have it in class, you'll need to make time to come by later to show me.
  3. Grade Week 28 DRE
  4. Expectations and quizzes for The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
    1. Some reading will be done out loud, as a class.  Some reading will be done by yourself, in class.  But sometimes, you might have to read on your own, for homework. (Gasp!!!)
    2. You will be expected to take notes (handwritten) as you read.
    3. You will be able to use these notes on your quizzes over the chapters.
    4. The quizzes will be VERY detail-oriented.
    5. If you are absent, please catch up BEFORE you return to class.  I would encourage you to get with a classmate to know how much we read.
    6. If you want to bring your own copy of the book, you may do so.
    7. If you lose your school-issued book, it will cost you $15.00 to replace it.
    8. I HIGHLY encourage you to check out Spark Notes, Cliff Notes, or other web resources IN ADDITION TO reading the text.  It will help you with understanding.  It WILL NOT take the place of reading the actual book.  Do NOT rely solely on those resources.
    9. Gatsby Books
      1. If you didn't get one assigned to you on Monday, I will assign you one today.
      2. Bring it to class EVERY, SINGLE DAY!
    10. Reminders:
      2. I'm planning on an SAT Quiz on Monday over Week 6-10.  However, depending on time, we may move this to Tuesday.  We will see how things go.
      3. Work on Free Rice...this is the only way you will be able to have a daily and quiz grade dropped.  I will announce the numbers that you have to get to.  But know that they will be pretty above 25,000.
      4. I'm out Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Hopefully, those are the last two days that I will be out for quite awhile.  Take care of your business and be the awesome people that you always are!!!
