Week 17, Day 3
Objective:
recognize distinctive and shared characteristics of cultures through reading; understand cultural background to literary texts, grade level vocabulary, and listening for understanding.

  1. Bell Work: Many writers write under a pen name, or a name other than their real name.  Samuel Clemens wrote under the name Mark Twain.  Washington Irving wrote under the name Jonathan Oldstyle.  Write reasons why you might use a pen name rather than your own pen name. Invent a pen name for yourself.
    1. It is a NEW six weeks, this means you need to write 70 words for the entry.
    2. You must use two of the current's week SAT words.
    3. Don't forget to underline every tenth word and box in your SAT word.
    4. Please do this on a separate sheet of paper and then we will put them in your spiral when you get them back.
  2. Using popcorn method (as a class) read "The Devil and Tom Walker" by Washington Irving on page 228.
  3. Work on "The Devil and Tom Walker" by Washington Irving--Vocabulary and Literary Terms from yesterday.
  4. You will have a quiz over this story tomorrow.
  5. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at cavalos@godleyisd.net or tweet me @AvalosEnglish.
  6. Be good for the sub and I can't wait to see you all on Thursday!
