- Bell Work: Yesterday, you read a short excerpt from a longer story called "Life on the Mississippi" (page 570.) Mark Twain was a writer who used exaggeration, embellishment, regional dialect, and boyhood recollections to make his stories humorous. In your own words, what was this short piece about. How did Twain use exaggeration, embellishment, regional dialect, and boyhood recollection in this story. Then, think about the differences between spoken humor and humor meant to be read. What is it about written humor that makes you laugh??
- Did you see that there are THREE parts to your bell work...
- Part 1-Tell me what the short piece was about.
- Part 2-How did Twain use exaggeration, embellishment, regional dialect, and boyhood recollection in the story?
- Part 3-What is it about written humor that makes you laugh?
